Moldova’s railways will be brought to European standards

The modernization of Moldova’s railway sector and its alignment with European standards have become the central topic of negotiations in Brussels, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea.

The dialogue included the reform of the State Enterprise “Moldova Railway”, technical assistance cooperation under the Transport Community Agreement, and the implementation phase of the Ungheni-Chisinau railway line modernization project,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The Ministry’s delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, also held talks with European experts and Romanian representatives on the implementation of coordinated control at the Moldovan-Romanian border. The initiative aims to optimize transport flows and reduce waiting times at border crossing points.
The agenda of the visit also included a meeting with Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, where the prospects for cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union in the areas of infrastructure and regional development were discussed.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Bola held talks with Temis Christofidou, Director General of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), on the possibilities of cooperation in implementing regional development projects and modernizing infrastructure at the local level.
The working visit to Brussels will continue in the coming days. The delegation of the Republic of Moldova will take part in the regional meeting of the QUAD (Moldova–Romania–Ukraine–European Commission), as well as in the third round of the EU–Moldova High-Level Dialogue on Transport.
